Theft.Due to the overcrowded nature of model apartments, something that happens often is theft. I don't care how poor your family is back in whatever country you are from- theft is not acceptable. I have had my heels for castings stolen... my underwear stolen... Girls have had more than 500 euros stolen; sad but this is common. That's why most of the time I don't even unpack my suitcase and lock it everyday. Where it has just been me and my roommate Terri it's been okay and the other girls are cool and stay in their living room, however, when the other girls arrive they will be in my room and I will be counting every t-shirt, every pair of knickers and socks and all of that to ensure my stuff doesn't get stolen.
My current sink. Not too bad... for now.Now this is one of the most annoying problems when living with so many girls- some of them act like they don't know how to wash a dish! At the apartment I am currently in there are three cups and two mugs. One of the cups stinks of coffee so no one wants to use that so basically there is four cups. There is four girls but this house holds six. So realistically as soon as you're done with the cup you should wash it so it can be used by someone else; models don't seem to understand this. Oh and even if they do wash up... why is there food still stuck to the plate? This really gets on my nerves especially when I am in a rush! Some girls have no home training and the sink piles up; my usual tactic is to claim a bowl, plate and cup and keep them in my suitcase so I don't need to worry haha.
My current fridge... See models do eat!Now food is really important to me and to many models (yeah yeah surprise surprise) so when someone tries to infiltrate the relationship between myself and the food I have just paid for all war breaks loose. Imagine one time I had bought some milk, I have cereal every morning and cannot function without it. So why did I come downstairs one morning to find my milk was done? not even enough for one bowl of cereal? I switched!!! Not to mention the secret eaters. The ones who have an odd relationship with food. Now these are actually more rare than people assume by the way. They will have some fruit for dinner but when everyone goes to bed they would raid the fridge and eat everyones chocolates and sweets; we would find the wrappers in the bathroom in the morning. We would never discover the culprit!
The bathroom... wish you could see all the hair hahaThis is a very difficult point to discuss as I have many a horror story to tell you about the bathroom. From brown bath tubs to overflowing sh*t filed toilets, I have seen it all. The bathroom is meant to be clean but during FashionWeek it can turn ugly. As you know I'm black lol so I wear a shower cap when I shower unless I'm washing my hair and most of my house mates have caucasian type hair. Imagine four to six girls' hair in the bathroom; it gets everywhere. Not only does the drain get clogged with massive hair balls but the hair is literally on every surface of the bathroom from the walls of the shower to the sink to the floor. It's rather disgusting. Some apartments have cleaners who come once a week to sort this sort of stuff out but the apartment I am in doesn't have a regular cleaner!
Rodents and Pests.
The three top pests in my previous apartments.Although I am so lucky this apartment doesn't have any, I have lived in model apartments with serious infestations varying from mice to cockroaches. In New York these pests are common but I feel its even worse in homes with loads of difference girls who all have different opinions on what is clean and proper. For instance, I would see it a disgrace to leave my half finished dinner on a plate on the table and go to bed but many girls do this and of course this attracts mice and ants. I'll never forget the time the girl opened her cereal box to find a massive cockroach. I was mortified! Mice running along the cooker was also the norm in the first house I stayed in. These are just some of the horrors that are seen in a real model apartment in the run up to/ during Fashion Week! I wish it was like Americas Next top Model and to be honest when I first did Fashion Week I was expecting a beautiful glass surface kitchen and en suite bathrooms. However, it is not like that! I didn't even mention what it was like to have such a clash of personalities under one roof- every watched Big brother? It can get much worse. The apartments just add to the stress of Fashion Week but I can draw one good point from living in such conditions- I have never appreciated my home in London as much as I do now and I have become a stronger person having to deal with the daily ins and outs of living with so many girls in such a small space. It is chaos but when you go back home and you look back at it... yeah.. you're usually scarred for life to be honest haha! Right now I must admit that I am currently living with three really nice girls so things aren't too bad- lets see how the other girls are!
